PROJECT OVERVIEW

Sangu (Sorun) Khola Hydroelectric Project is a 5.0 MW run-of-the-river (RoR) scheme located in Dolakha District, within Bigu Rural Municipality. The project is designed to generate 29.72 GWh of energy annually after accounting for consumptive use, outages, and system losses.

The scheme utilizes a 40% dependable flow of 1.88 m³/s as the design discharge, with a gross head of 325.5 m and net head of 316.86 m. Water is conveyed through approximately 4,531 m of surface-type mild steel headrace/penstock pipe (Ø 1.3 m to 1.1 m; thickness 6–20 mm) from the settling basin to the surface powerhouse.

The headworks, located at 1,595.5 masl, comprise a side intake, gravel trap, connecting canal, and settling basin. The powerhouse is situated at Sorung Bazar on the left bank of Sangu (Sorun) Khola, about 300 m upstream of its confluence with Singati Khola, a tributary of Tamakoshi River.

The project area lies between latitude 27°47’13” N to 27°48’15” N and longitude 86°04’00” E to 86°04’03” E.
